The 1st Hamrun Group was established in 1913, at which time, most British regiments stationed in Malta, had their own bands. It was on this model that the Hamrun Group founded its own band starting with a bugle. In time, Bagpipes became popular in Malta mainly due to two Highland Regiments stationed in our country which lead to their introduction to the band, thus changing it to a Pipe Band in 1964. Four years later, in 1968, the Hamrun Scout Group was honoured with the Coat of Arms of the Duke of Argyll presented to us by the Duke himself. From that day on, with the approval of the Scout Association of Malta, our group became the 1st Hamrun Scout Group Duke of Argyll’s Own. This also meant that the Pipe Band could wear the tartan belonging to the Campbell Clan.

Along the years, the Band has increased its numbers adding high tension snare drums, bell lyres, and tenor drums to its ranks and currently consists of forty committed individuals coming from different walks of life. The Pipe Band has participated in a number of high profile events throughout the years, namely the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2005, President's Award Scheme Malta Forum in 2012 along with numerous appearances in the Malta Military Tattoo. The Band has changed considerably during the years but it’s purpose has not and it continues to provide youths with the resources they need to explore and enhance their musical talent.
